The slow cooker (AKA Crock Pot) has been a kitchen staple since the early 1970s. It has evolved from a simple on/off appliance to a multifunctional kitchen tool. Today, slow cookers can sauté, sous vide, and yes, still cook at various temperatures. Most models come with automatic on/off features and a host of additional functions that make meal prep even easier.
My absolute favorite is the Ninja Eight-in-One. It simply isn’t just a slow cooker; it’s a multi-functional powerhouse with eight cooking modes: slow cook, sear/sauté, steam, keep warm, sous vide, braise, bake, and proof. You can even use the pan in the oven at temperatures up to 500 degrees, adding yet another layer of versatility to this kitchen gadget. I was particularly impressed by the seamless transition between searing and slow cooking in one pot—less cleanup and more flavor-packed meals.
Some recipes truly shine when paired with a slow cooker’s sauté feature. Erin Clarke of Well Plated has a fantastic Slow Cooker Beef Stew recipe that suggests browning the beef before adding it to the slow cooker. With the Ninja slow cooker, you can sauté right in the pot, eliminating the need for an extra pan to wash. This stew pairs perfectly with crusty bread or biscuits.
Another of Erin’s recipes that never disappoints is her Slow Cooker Carnitas. I’ve tried many versions of carnitas, but hers is the best. I love serving it in tacos with fried taco shells and a side of my Dan Bonney Beans (which I created myself! This combo is a family favorite.
Pulled pork is another slow cooker classic I always rely on. Erin’s Slow Cooker Honey Pulled Pork is hands-down my favorite recipe. It’s made from scratch—no pre-made BBQ sauce here—and it’s absolutely delicious! Pair it with coleslaw, and you’ve got a winning meal.
Chili is a great go-to meal, and Natasha from Natasha’s Kitchen has a fantastic Slow Cooker Chili Recipe. The sauté function on my Ninja Slow Cooker is perfect for browning the meat and onions before adding everything else. I like pairing this chili with Ali’s Gimme Some Oven Everyday Mexican Salad, which is to die for. I always keep queso fresco and pepitas on hand just for this dish.
For a different flavor profile, Sara from Dinner at the Zoo has a delicious Slow Cooker Teriyaki Chicken recipe. While she uses chicken breasts, I prefer a mix of breasts and thighs. Add in some broccoli or carrots an hour before it’s done, and you’ve got a complete meal. Serve it over rice for an easy, satisfying dinner.
When I was hosting a crowd for Christmas, I used my slow cooker to make hot chocolate. Sally McKenney of Sally’s Baking Addiction has an amazing Decadent Slow Cooker Hot Chocolate that serves a crowd. Marshmallows are optional, but highly recommended!
This is just a quick sampling of some of my favorite slow cooker recipes, and there are so many more out there to explore. What are your favorite slow cooker meals? Let me know in the comments!
